This is how it all started…
It started with BMX.
I started racing when I was around 13, and I loved it. The speed, the adrenaline, the competition — and I still do. I’m still racing today, just not quite at a pro level!
Alongside racing, I started making posters and flyers, including for BMX, as well as other graphic designs around motorcycles and motorsport. And that’s where I ran into a problem: I often had an image in my head of what I wanted a design to look like, but I didn’t have the right photos or angles to make it happen.
So, instead of looking for the perfect photo, I thought: why not take it myself?
I picked up a camera and started shooting wherever I could. Before long, I was taking it along to BMX races too, for when I wouldn’t be riding myself. What started as a way to get the images I needed for my designs turned into something I genuinely loved.
There’s something about photographing sports and action that keeps me coming back. BMX is probably the biggest example: the speed, the split-second moments, the expressions, the crashes, the celebrations. There’s always something happening. I’m drawn to that same kind of energy in things like MX, motorsport and HYROX, sports where there’s a lot going on and you never quite know what moment you’re going to capture next.
And of course, not every good photo has to involve movement. Sometimes a more controlled or static shot is exactly what a poster or flyer needs. For me, it’s about finding the image that works.
Graphic design and photography have ended up complementing each other naturally. Sometimes I start with a camera and end up with a design. Other times, a design is what made me pick up the camera in the first place.
I’m still building my experience, and I’m still learning with every shoot and every project. But I care about what I create, and I’m always looking for the next thing to learn, improve and capture.
This is how it started and I’m excited to see where it takes me.
